Rare and original Meiji 3 (1870) Japanese woodblock print Atlas of the World. Volume measures 6 X 9 inches (closed) and has 44 pages, including 4 hemispheric World Maps, foldout Map of the World, Map of Europe, Map of the United States, Map of South America, Map of Africa, and Map of Polynesia including the Sandwich Islands (Kingdom of Hawaii). T are also 9 pages with woodblock prints of Flags of the World including the Kingdom of Hawaii. The Japanese had an early interest in colonizing Hawaii and the appearance of infomation about the Sandwich Islands in this volume is very rare.
