ORIGINAL 1764 MAP NEW ENGLAND NY PA NJ FRENCH ATLAS Purchased at a recent incredible auction of Americana attended by collectors and dealers who were primarily interested in other categories. That's how we are able to start this "Carte de la Nouvelle Angleterre, New York, Pensilvanie et Nouveau Jersay" at $95 and not in the hundreds of dollars. I understand that the cartographer was Jacques Nicolas and the map is from Bellin's Let Petit Atlas Maritime (Paris, 1764). The map is set in a rectangle measuring approximately 14 1/2" x 12 3/4" and is on a broadsheet measuring approximately 17 1/2"x 13 1/2". T is one vertical fold line which has probably been t since publication. Some foxing on the outer edges, but nothing taking away from the map. The map shows towns, roads, mountains, rivers, etc. Many rivers and water boundaries are highlighted in color. The location furthest "down east" in what is now the State of Maine is Baye de Penobfcot (Penobscot Bay) and the southernmost coastal location is Havre du Petit Oeuf (Little Egg Harbor) in Nouveau Jersay (New Jersey). The front of the sheet is marked in the upper right corner, Tome I No. 29. The number 29 is on the back of the page in the upper right as well. T is NO handling/packing fee. We will mail this item as economically as possible. Please click onto our pictures for detailed read more
