No Reserve!Pre Ban Ivory Carved Japanese Owl TRICK NETSUKE Pop Out Eyes Signed I have two Netsuke items up for sale this week. I bought them some years ago at an estate auction (with a large collection of Asian art items) and was told they were ivory. I am not an expert on ivory but have always relied on the "hot pin" test to be certain they are not penetrable. I did this in a discreet spot on each of them and the hot pin did not effect the surface. They are both signed so I hope that you will be able to determine the Artist; and the origin of them by reviewing the photographs. This wonderful owl stands a bit more than 1¾" high; and nearly 1" wide. He is intricately carved with "pop out eyes" that glide in and out about ¼" before stopping.. With an eye loop I can see surface cross graining under the carving. In addition to the holes on the back; he has a loop imbedded at the top for a chain. The metal is not marked; but it appears to be hand tooled and has a slight pink to the gold tone. T is no color wear on the metal which makes me think it may be gold. PLEASE REVIEW THE PHOTOGRAPHS CAREFULLY. MORE DETAILED INFORMATION IS PROVIDED UNDER EACH PICTURE. Other front profile view. Back view. Pop out eyes. Close-up of eyes. Close-up of carving detail. Bottom view. Artist Marking. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS...PLEASE ALLOW read more
