I am cleaning out the closets and will be listing a few Southern Folk Pottery pieces from my collection. Description: You are bidding on a great Monkey Face Jug by the legenday Billy Ray Hussey. Billy Ray is a contemporary North Carolina potter whose roots in the pottery tradition are quite deep. He is the great-grandson of the Steeds, NC potter J.H. Owens (1866 - 1923). His grandmother's brother was the well-known potter M.L. Owens, and it was in M.L. Owens pottery shop that Billy Ray learned his craft while growing up. The collector of Billy Ray Hussey's pottery is exposed to a diversity of forms and styles, from salt glazed pieces that celebrate influences of the Foxes and Cravens, to alkaline glazed pieces that pay tribute to the Seagles, to face jugs that only Billy's imagination could concoct, to figurals that offer humorous snapshots of the human condition. The monkey face jug offered today measures 7 1/2" high and is from his now famous kilm 50. Billy was at the pinnacle of his career when the pieces of kiln 50 were produced. The pieces were flawless in execution and concept. Shipping: Shipping will be $15.00 to anyw in the Continental United States and will come fully insured.
