Rare Northern Wei Horse & Rider Allen's Antiques Ltd 10 DAY AUCTION DESCRIPTION: A superb ancient Chinese pottery model of a horse and rider (cavalryman), dating to the Northern Wei dynasty, circa 1500 years ago. Standing on a retangular plinth, the white painted horse has black painted reins and harness. The rider is wearing a long sleeved robe and red painted shoulder length headwear. He is twisted to his left, arms raised as if holding a spear. The hole in his left thigh would have supported a weapon made of wood and since rotted away. Size: 285mm (11.4 inches) High Condition: Some expected wear, degradation, minor losses, abrasions, and restoration, as a consequence of extended burial and subsequent cleaning. Please view images carefully. Dating: Han Dynasty (206 B.C to 220 A.D.) Comment: A rare find.
