Unless something changes, this auction will be the only one for authentic cufflinks. Sadly, I haven't seen an authentic pair of GW Bush cufflinks on eBay in months! Why? Because t are numerous sellers on eBay that have dozens of pairs of cufflinks listed from nearly every President from the last 30 years. The worst part is most of them will pretend they are selling authentic White House items. Do you really think anyone happens to have an unlimited supply of VIP cufflinks only given out by the President and his staff, and on top of that they have dozens of pairs from all the different presidents. Instead, they are selling cheap reproductions that are somewhat similar to the authentic cufflinks. In turn, people are buying them and then putting them in stores, on political websites as "authentic" and "rare" and hundreds and thousands of cheap knock offs are going to people who simply don't even know any better. As recently as a few years ago, authentic presidential cufflinks were hard to find for less than 100-200.00, and some from various presidents were valued at several hundred. True political stores usually sell the diecast cufflinks for about 250.00, although similar REPLICAS can be found on eBay for around $30.00. An unknown company began producing all these replica cufflinks, which for some selling has become a full time business. Unfortunately, eBay and others have done nothing to stop this, which is why as of right now t 29 auctions for "Bush Cufflinks" and not a single one of them is authentic. What good will a replica do any of us?? This auction is for an AUTHENTIC pair of President George WBush diecast cufflinks (photo 2). I am auctioning these cufflinks mostly because I wanted to take the time to explain why these cufflinks are authentic, and why 99.9% of all presidential cufflinks on eBay are nothing more than cheap and confusing replicas that have destroyed the true value of presidential cufflinks. So, how do you tell the difference? The most obvious way to tell the difference is to look at the box and the signature on the cufflinks. For some reason, the producers of all the fake George W Bush Jr cufflinks used a signature that is engraved in the jewelry as âeoeGâe âeoeWâe âeoeBushâe in three separate engravings. The authentic items are engraved as âeoeGWâe âeoeBushâe with the G and W connected, just as President Bush actually signs items. See photograph 3 and 1 for a clear distinction. This same authentic signature is found printed in gold on the top lid of the box of most authentic Bush cufflinks, while the fake cufflinks normally come in two boxes, with the outer box being a big blue cardboard box with an eagle stamped on the top. See photograph 5, which shows the outer box for replicas on the left size. After what seems like dozens of attempts at photographing and scanning, I was finally able to get a good photograph of a flaw in the replica cufflinks. As you know, the official Seal of the President of the United States has a blue and white striped shield in the center of the eagle. T are a total of 13 stripes, 7 of them white and 6 of them red. As you can see in photograph number 4, the replica cufflinks have the wrong number of stripes!! Looking at them in person, it's very hard to notice, but an up close scan shows the difference. As I already mentioned, the back of the cufflinks shows an easy to identify difference in the signatures, but I wanted you to be aware the front is flawed too. The authentic cufflinks are not nearly as shiny as the replicas either. Although they are not pictured, for those of you who either have or have looked at the "cobalt" cufflinks, true White House cobalts are stamped 10K gold, and you will notice none of the ones on eBay are stamped 10K.
