It was named after the Iver (Georgian) cloister at Aphon ( Greece ) w it had miraculously appeared in IX century in the days of iconoclasm. The first copy of this icon had been brought to Moscow in 1648 and became the source of many later copies. The feasts are on February 12(25), April 24 (May 7), October 13(26). This Russian Orthodox icon was painted by a modern professional church artist at the main Monastery of Saint-Petersburg: Alexander Nevsky Laura. The wooden panel was covered with levkas (gesso, special priming) and then painted with egg tempera . The style is traditional and strictly follows antique canons of the icon painting.
