You are bidding on a very rare, complete set of Salada Foods Baseball Coins from 1961. These type of coins were packed in Salada & Junket Tea Bags, Packaged Tea, Quick Fudge Mix, Rennet Custard, Freezing Mix, Sherbet Mix, and Danish Dessert. However, the ones I have were never in circulation. This set was given to food distributors, and since my great grandfather worked at a grocery store, that's how my dad got a hold of them. They've basically sat in the box, with the cover, ever since. There are 180 coins and they are all in mint condition - without any stains, cracks, or anything else - with the exception of one (#15 Tito Francona of the Cleveland Indians, which is chipped.) The coins are of "Ten Top Stars" on each team. There is some damage to the box, as my dad cut in an additional hole and added "Mets", because midway through production, the National League expanded by adding two teams - the New York Mets and the Houston Colt .45's . Sets were made with additional coins and two additional holes, so this is one of the older sets, and very few like these exist.The amount of Hall of Famers in this set is tremendous - Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente, Carl Yastrzemski, Sandy Koufax, Hank Aaron, Jim Bunning, Harmon Killebrew, Al Kaline, Bill Mazeroski, Whitey Ford, Yogi Berra, Brooks Robinson, Dick Williams, Frank Robinson, Willie McCovey, and Orlando Cepeda, are among the ones I noticed. There are a bunch of other notable players too like Roger Maris, Joe Torre, Billy Martin, Don Zimmer, and Ron Santo, among others.Again, these are very rare. Most of these sets have been broken up over the years and not many remain left in circulation. Most of the standard baseball price guides suggest that their value is somewhere in the $3,000 range. A set was sold for over that amount last Christmas, according to Internet sites I've found. There is another, more recent, set on eBay.
