PLEASE CHECK OUT MY OTHER ITEMS UP FOR SALE ...Also listing in the next few days...a Green Redware Jug...a Folk art decorated ROOSTER crock ...an advertising salt glazed pitcher from OHIO...a very rare marked Julius Norton RABBIT decorated jug with others coming later... Will add photos tomorrow...check-in as it may not be until late tomorrow evening. Today for sale is a three gallon stoneware storage jug / crock marked, "HARBAUGH" with a "3". It is 16"inches tall and decorated with two beautiful cobalt blue flowers . This makers mark is either George F. Harbaugh who potted Borough Township in Beaver County PA from 1848 to 1857 or John Harbaugh who potted in North Sewickly Township Beaver County from 1817 to 1827 and then in Vanport, Beaver County Pennsylvania in 1839. Quite an early piece with a beautiful ovoid form and nicely finished lip and strong cobalt blue around the handle attachments. Check out the brown slip around the base which is a technique used by earlier potter's. The jug is in good condition with the exception to a cracked handle possibly from a stone in the clay which burst. The crack does not look like it goes through and the handle is still strong and carries the weight of the jug (see photos). This is an early jug from Western, PA and would make a great find for any stoneware, primitive or folk art collector. read more
