EARLY SAMPLER Nice early sampler made in the reign of William fourth.. It is signed ' Susan Sage Worked this Sample aged 13 1831'. At the top is a verse ' Trust in the lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding proverbs 3 chap 5 verse '. It is very finely worked in silk on a linen back. Very busy design showing Birds, Tress , Flowers , Baskets and Adam and Eve. It is in its original Gothic style frame and is glazed. It measures 15 inches by 13 inches. Condition is remarkable, no holes or moth damage whatsoever. Some dirt and staining has got into the bottom 1/4 of the picture through a gap in the backboards which you can see in a photograph of the reverse. I have left as found but this could be possibly improved with a different backing or very careful cleaning. It is not unsightly and I mention it just because it is t The frame is missing 2 of the corner mounts and t is some damage to one corner. For a sampler of this age and detail I am listing with what I believe is a very fair start price and no reserve. Postage will be free without Frame and glass but please ask for a quote if you would like to keep it intact as it can be packed safely just might weigh a bit. Shipping costs will be actual postage costs, in some cases less, no extra's. Packing will be ultra safe using poly chips and bubble wrap. Please read more
