VERY EARLY RARE GLASS NEGITIVE OF THE MOON - AUGUST 27, 1888 - MOUNT HAMILTON - LICK OBSERVATORY -SANTA CLARA COUNTY - NEAR SAN JOSE - SILACON VALLEY , , Lick Observatory is the world's first permanently occupied mountain-top observatory . Constructed 1876 - 1887 . . Home of the great Lick refractor telescope . . The first telescope saw first light January 3, 1888. The offering is labeled only some 7+ months later. . The label at the bottom of the oak frame reads: LICK OBSERVATORY UNIVERSITYOF CALIFORNIA - MOUNT HAMILTON - SANTA CLARA COUNTY - PHOTOGRAPH OF AUGUST 27, 1888 - ORIGINAL NEGITIVE BY B. AOE 20 DAYS . . THE GLASS NEGATIVE IS HOUSED IN A FRAME APPROX. 8-3/4 BY 11 INCHES. . Appears that the negative is taped to the perimeter of the glass frame. .
