Large Stone Skull Effigy Medicine Pipe This pipe is quite heavy and measures 2 3/4 inches tall and 3 1/2 inches long. This pipe is in amazing overall condition. There are absolutely no repairs on this pipe. I do not know the type of stone used, but it has beautiful natural markings throughout and an excellent patina. I am not sure if it is Native American or maybe African. I bought it at auction with several other Native American items. The Native Americans did not smoke pipes like this for the sake of smoking as people do today. They believed smoking to be very spiritual and combined it with prayer and communion with the Great Spirit. That to me is what makes effigy pipes so interesting. There is always a reason for the particular effigy, Not simply decoration. These pipes were always treated with great care and respect. This one will be an excellent addition to your collection.
