Vintage Great Horned Owl Mongwu Hopi Kachina Doll Signed Largo Leather Feathers Tilting Dancing 11” Vintage Great Horned Owl Mongwu Hopi Kachina Male Doll, Signed by Largo He is made of painted wood, mounted on a circular wooden platform, and decorated with leather, fur, yarn, suede and feathers. His colors are vivid and strong despite his age. Purchased in Colorado about 20 years ago, and he was old then. This is probably made before the 1970s when the Endangered Species Act prevented real feathers from being gathered and used. He is in great condition, a little dusty, but otherwise only small issues as noted below. See photos for details. He is approximately 11" tall and has 6" wide. He can stand on his own on a 4” diameter base, tilting slightly to one side. It appears one of his arms was broken off at the shoulder and has been repaired, the crack is fairly visible. 3 pheasant feathers are on each side of his head, and gray fur is on his face front and down the chest like a beard and down the back like hair. Carved wooden beak and 2 protruding eyes make the face. He is painted a silvery gray with white, green and red details. His arms hold a willow switch or yucca blade in each hand--used for beating clowns in a ceremony. He has suede gauntlets around his wrist, and suede ties above his boots and at his elbows.
