ITEM: You are bidding on five vintage and original 1950s Hawaiian cruise ship menus featuring the Eugene Savage Hawaiian history murals. Titles include "Pomp & Circumstance", "Festival of the Sea", "Hawaii's Decisive Hour", "A God Appears" and "Aloha...Universal Word". The artist was commissioned by the Matson Navigation Company to create a series of murals in 1938 but due to World War II, the artworks did not appear publicly until 1948, at which time they were reproduced as menu covers aboard the S.S. Lurline. It is estimated that over a quarter of a million Savage menu covers were distributed to cruise ship guests between 1948 and 1957, and today, his beautiful menu covers are highly collectible examples of Hawaiian ephemera.Pomp has crease line from being folded when used as a menu, Decisive Hour has had something spilled and has a light stain on the right side of the picture. These are used menus that are from December 24, 29, 30, 31, 1956 and January 1, 1957 so they are 60 years old but in amazing shape considered and would be great framed.Measures 21" x 13 3/4" each.
