Vintage Salem China Plate Imperial Cobalt Blue & Gold, Victorian Ladies SceneThe Salem China Company was founded in 1898 in Salem, Ohio. Over the years they produced many types of tableware, starting with white granite ware and followed by fine earthenware and kitchen items and finally fine dinnerware, but dinnerware production ceased in 1967. I believe a fire a few years ago put the company out of business. This listing is for an 11" service plate which we estimate to be from the 1940s or '50s. The center of the plate is a creamy white with 2 Victorian ladies at the edge of a wooded area. The 2" rim is a dark cobalt blue, covered with 23k gold flowers and scrollwor and then rimmed with gold. The backstamp is in gold. Under a crown it reads, "Imperial by Salem China Co. Service Plates, Made in U.S.A., 23k gold, * * * 5 5 U."This is in great condition with very little wear to the gold. We have seen similar plates selling for $20.00.Take a moment to look at all of the other items we have listed from silver to holiday items to Depression Glass.
