World War II German Bakelite Military Canteen, Wool Cover, Leather Strap/Harness, & Cup You are bidding on an Word War II German Military Canteen that is made of bakelite, has a wool cover, and an Aluminum Cup. I didn't know anything about this canteen, however, a veiwer helped me identify this canteen as a German World War II canteen. I purchased this canteen at a sale and the gentleman that I bought it from said it belonged to his grandfather. The canteen is oval shaped and bakelite (looks like a dark wood). The canteen has a wool cover over it and t is a tear and a worn spot on the wool cover. The wool cover fits snuggly on the canteen. The wool cover snaps on the canteen with four tin-type snap buttons that have 4 point stars (see picture). T is a leather harness/strap that fastens around the canteen and also hold the aluminum cup on the canteen. T is also a clip on the leather harness that holds the canteen to a belt. The cup has traces of black paint on it and is marked SSL39 near the handles. The canteen has an aluminum screw-on cap and this cap is marked ESB 34. If anyone can help out with any information on this canteen it would be appreciated.
