One of the more unusual Allied glasses of the war, this binoculars started life as a conventional 7x50 but was reconfigured by the US Naval Gun Factory into a 9x63 midway through the war. They were designed for senior officers and fire control personnel aboard battleships to deliver both extended reach a a wider field of view (see Seeger, 1st ed., p. 340-1). Features include porro prism construction, tipped rubber eyecups, individually focusing diopters, and coated optics. Interestingly, the original "Mk 32" designation on the right-hand prism cover has been lined out and replaced on the left-hand prism cover with the imprints "U.S. Navy Bu.Ord., U.S. Naval Gun Factory, Mk 37, 9x63". Body cosmetics show the usual wear, but the optics are cleaned and superb. These don't come up very often and should be part of any serious collection. Best of all, they are offered with NO RESERVE, so bid early and often.
