Messrs Hoare, London, 1880 Imprint - None Watermark - Messieurs Hoare Fleet Street + Golden Bottle (house symbol of Hoare) enclosed in a frame of single line scroll work, all carefully centred in the cheque portion only. A large cheque 251 x 95 mm, printed on fine paper with an attractive blue security panel on the reverse featuring 39 Golden Bottles (see scan No. 2) .The panel is designed to ghost through to the front to cover all those areas carrying the payers hand written details including signature.A very original and attractive cheque. The book is numbered, not individual cheques. Messrs Hoare, London, 1918 Imprint - None Watermark - Messieurs Hoare Fleet Street + Golden Bottle enclosed in a frame of single line scroll work. Duty stamped 9th September 1918 and displaying the effects of shortage of raw materials towards the end of WWI. Not the same fine quality paper, reduced size 262 x 77.5 mm, cut from a large watermarked sheet, therefore watermark appears at random anywhere in the cheque, including counterfoil and is not complete, remainder appearing on an adjacent cheque. Cheques now individually numbered. Imprint on the 1918 renewal slip reads - Shaw & Sons, Fetter lane, E.C.4 The 1880 cheque is of particular interest to serious collectors since the bold decorative security panel is not present on an 1898 Hoare cheque read more
