VICTORIAN EGYPTIAN REVIVAL W TONKS GIRONDELLE MIRROR A superb looking Victorian girondelle mirror in the mode of the prevailing Victorian nineteenth century Egyptian revival movement. Simply it is a mirror with attached candle holders to help illuminate a room pre-light bulb era. The piece appears to be made of copper but we are not certain if either there is a little gilding still in place or whether it was copper plated over brass and the brass is showing through a little here and there. The details are well defined and it presents as a very fine and elegant piece. It was made by William Tonks of Sheffield who worked primarily in both copper and brass and bears a registered design number for 1885 . The detailing to the frame is typical of the expertise for which he is famous, having exhibited and won great acclaim at the Paris Exhibition. From the stylised plumage to the upper to the little cherub mask between the detachable candlesticks this piece shouts quality. A pair of winged Egyptian figures embrace it to either side as can be seen in the images. The bevelled mirror is original to the piece and has a good thick plate. It is in good condition for its years with no structural faults to the frame but there is some wear to the silvering to the mirror as hopefully you will discern from the images and we hold that it adds
