1424 or 1525? GERMANY? Jetton, BUTTERFLY & MONK PRAYING This is a very early large Jetton from Germany (I believe) . It is dated either 1424 or 1525, I am not sure, but I suspect 1525 is the actual date. Jettons were used as counters by moneychangers of the time. With the multitude of coinage being used in Europe and the differing values between them, these were indispensable aids. Weight: 3.80 Gram, 28 Millimeter, Copper. Obverse: Priest or Monk Praying, Starburst at right. Reverse: Butterfly above plant. Date in legend. Edge: Normal for the issue. The Jetton: A fair example, the date in the legend of the reverse looks like either 1424 or 1525. I wish I knew more about these so I could give you a better description. Totally original, never cleaned or played with, a decent piece overall. As grading is subjective please see the pictures and judge for yourself. I ship the day after cleared payment.
