After the Civil War broke out in 1861, the newly established Confederate government began to issue it's own money as legal tender to the citizens of the South. The gamble was that if the South won the war, the money would be redeemable. The 1st note from the Government of the Confederate States of America was issued in April of 1861. From then on, notes were issued on through 1864. Almost every Confederate note was painstakingly hand signed and numbered. It is not uncommon for these notes to have uneven, or rough borders since scissors or shears were used to hastily cut the sheets of notes apart. This is an ORIGINAL CONFEDERATE TEN DOLLAR NOTE up for auction. This note was first issued Feb. 17th 1864 and it has the serial number 135852. It is in FINE condition a couple of small tears. It has been hand signed and numbered and has a plate letter E. I grade my notes very conservatively so . This note is a very popular note and a favorite among new collectors. A nice original token from the civil war era. The obverse of this note features a BEAUTIFUL scene of horses pulling a cannon and soldiers fighting in the background. The reverse features the denomination with a beautiful blue webbed design. Thank you for your consideration. Feel free to email me with any questions. For more currency see my other auctions.
