AMERICAN / PENNSYLVANIA JACQUARD COVERLETS, LOT OF TWO, each dark blue, rose or salmon pink, and light or dark green wool, and light blue and natural cotton, comprising one signed example, whole panel, center with large medallion surrounded by floral motifs, four sides with rose vine and small Greek key borders, four corners with bird motifs, two side edges with remnants of fringe, lower edge signed twice, "LATEST IMPROVED P WARRANTED / M BY H STAGER MOUNT JOY"; and the other example, two joined panels, center having repeated stylized flower pattern, three sides with rose and tulip border, lower two corners with floret blocks and cut-off dates with one appears to read "184[8 or 9?]", three edges with fringe. Signed coverlet Henry F. Stager, Mt. Joy Borough, Lancaster Co., PA. Mid/third quarter 19th century. Stager example 65" x 75" with fringe; two-paneled example 77" x 79" OA.Condition Stager example in fair to good overall condition with some scattered stains and spotting, losses to wool notably along edges and to fringe, edges with wear, top and bottom edges with tears; two-paneled example in mostly very good overall condition with top edge with wear, tear, and losses to cotton, top edge rolled and mended, center seam with mending at top, some scattered stains and spotting, lower edge with losses, fringe with some losses.
