Antique Crucifix Bénitier from Bretagne in Northern France. This is a very beautiful, all metal Crucifix Bénitier mounted on a cloth covered base. We found it in the small Breton Village of Plesder. “Bénitier” refers to the font for receiving the Holy Water which is at the foot of the cross. The Christ is worked beautifully in full three dimensions, and the cross itself has art-nouveau style finials. Please see the close up pictures for details. The material is very worn, definitely adding a certain charm and character to the crucifix as well as testifying to its age. This is a great piece for someone who loves old world charm in all its shabby glory or has a steam punk aesthetic. These crucifixes date from the late 1800s early 1900s. Roughly 7 3/4 inches high ( 19.6 cm) and heavy. We have two of these. The other is red. Please compare with our other listing. Note: The item is still in France. Please allow us a few days handling to get it into the US Postal Service.
