This is an Antique Handmade Large Primitive Wooden Coopered Firkin or Sugar Bucket from Lancaster, Pennsylvania circa early 1800s. This Primitive Antique Firkin has the traditional shellac finish that was used to protect the sugar bucket from the elements. The Antique Firkin has a wide bentwood band swing handle that is attached to the bucket with pegs. The lid shows the original copper nails with a beautiful tapered finger. The Antique Wooden Firkin has been well used and is well worn, primitive, scared and stained. The Antique Handmade Primitive Firkin is double banded with bentwood bands that show the original antique nails. Each of the bentwood bands overlap with finely tapered fingers. The Antique Primitive Firkin is in excellent condition and has aged appropriate worn and weathered patina. The Antique Primitive Firkin shows a rounded small arched hole on the bottom that looks like a smoothed mouse hole! The Antique Firkin has been cleaned and is immaculate. The Antique Handmade Large Primitive Wooden Coopered Firkin or Sugar Bucket is 12 inch in height without the handle and 12 1/2 inches wide at the bottom. The lid of the sugar bucket measures 12 inches. The circumference at the widest part of the Antique Firkin is 41 inches. This is an Early Americana Primitive.
