This is an Antique Handmade Large Primitive Wooden Coopered Firkin or Sugar Bucket from Lancaster, Pennsylvania circa early 1800s. This Primitive Antique Firkin has a rich and warm patina with the traditional shellac finish, that was used to protect the sugar bucket from the elements. The Antique Firkin has a wide bentwood band swing handle that is attached to the bucket with pegs. The lid shows the original copper nails with a beautiful tapered finger. The Antique Wooden Firkin has been well used and is well worn, primitive, scared and stained. The Antique Handmade Primitive Firkin has four bentwood bands that show the original cooper nails. Each of the bentwood bands overlap with finely tapered fingers. The Antique Primitive Firkin is in excellent condition and has aged appropriate worn and weathered patina. The Antique Firkin has been cleaned and is immaculate. The Antique Handmade Large Primitive Wooden Coopered Firkin or Sugar Bucket is 10 inch in height without the handle and 10 inches wide at the bottom. The lid of the sugar bucket measures 9 1/2 inches. The circumference at the widest part of the Antique Firkin is 32 inches. This is a beautiful Early Americana Primitive.
