This is an Antique Handmade Large Primitive Shaker Wooden Coopered Firkin or Sugar Bucket from Lancaster, Pennsylvania circa early 1800s. A Firkin is an old English Unit of Volume. The term firkin is currently used to refer to antique buckets, usually with a handle and lid. This Primitive Antique Firkin has a rich and warm patina with a beautiful aged primitive patina. The antique Shaker Firkin is large in size. The Antique Sugar Firkin has a wide bentwood band swing handle that is attached to the bucket with wooden buttons and is pegged in the inside. The lid shows the original copper nails with a beautiful tapered fingers. The bottom of the antique firkin also shows two additional tapered finger bands that surround the bucket. The bottom of the antique Shaker Firkin comes complete with a small hole where a mouse made his home. There are scars on the lid where old nails were used. The Antique Handmade Primitive Firkin has four bentwood bands that show the original cooper nails. Each of the bentwood bands overlap with finely tapered fingers. The Antique Primitive Firkin is in excellent condition and has aged appropriate patina. The Antique Shaker Firkin has been cleaned and oiled with natural bees oil and is immaculate.
