The term firkin is currently used to refer to antique buckets, usually with a handle and lid. This Primitive Antique Firkin has a rich and warm patina with the original ochre/orange patina. The antique Shaker Firkin is large in size. The Antique Sugar Firkin has a wide bentwood band swing handle that is attached to the bucket with wooden buttons and is pegged in the inside. The lid shows the original copper nails with beautiful tapered fingers. The bottom of the antique firkin also shows an additional tapered finger band that surrounds the bucket. There is a slight loss on the tapered finger (see photo). This does not affect the character or integrity of this Antique Shaker Firkin. The bottom of the antique Shaker Firkin comes complete with a few tiny chew marks where a mouse had a tasty meal. The Antique Handmade Primitive Firkin has three bentwood bands that show the original cooper nails. Each of the bentwood bands overlap with finely tapered fingers.
