RARE Dresden Cherub Pierced Compote with STAPLE REPAIR Offered for sale is this signed Pierced Reticulated Dresden Compote with standing Cherubs. What makes this so RARE is that is has old staple repairs. Staple repair items have become quite popular for collectors. This would have been a prized piece for a family to have it repaired. During the 18th and 19th Century hand-drills were used to carefully drill holes either side of a crack in the porcelain. A staple was then heated up and fitted into the holes. As the staple cooled the metal contracted and pulled the porcelain tightly together. This formed a very stable repair with a solid feel and prevented the crack from traveling further. A very old and skilful method! There are five staples surrounding the Cherub in yellow. One on the inside by the wing and four on the underside. It also appears that the Cherub in pink had been damaged and reattached. I find a small chip on the wing of the pink Cherub. The green Cherub has chipped fingers in the outstretched arm. A tiny chip in the hair of this one also. This beautiful and One of a Kind piece measures 9" across which does not include the Cherubs. It stands 5" high. All items offered are vintage and small imperfections are normal due to age. Any major problems with an item will be posted. Ask questions first, bid second. I'm read more
