This was personally sourced from the Tikuna village near Leticia, in the Colombian rainforest accessable only by boat down the Amazon River from Brazil or Peru. This doll is made of llachama pounded bark cloth (from a sustainable llachama tree and is traditionally used by this tribe, the TIKANU tribe, for making their masks, carvings and crafts.This auction is for the Amazonian Spirit Doll seen in the gallery picture (not all 3 dolls - please see our other adverts for the other dolls). The Indian tribes of the Amazon basin have long been known for carving crafts and making parchments for dyeing and sculpting from the lightweight balsa wood that is plentiful intheir area of the rain forest, and which is one of the fastest growing plants, growing to 20-30 metres within 5 years. The wood is very tactile and lightweight and is dyed using natural dyes found in the forest. This piece of indigenous folk art depicts a native Amazonian Indian adorned in his ritual dress and head mask of a large bird, and is decorated with traditional tribal art, painted using natural vegetable paints.
