Antique Militia Light US Artillery Saber, 1810-1840 measuring 32" overall, blade measures 27". No scabbard is available. Brass hilt handle has black leather over wood, the curved blade is very nice showing some age patina, scattered fine pitting, all tight with no looseness. This pattern saber was used through the Mexican War, and some even found their way into the Civil War. The use of this saber was not confined to light artillery. Militia cavalry units, ignoring the federal regulations also made use of similar weapons. No markings that I can see. (see Harold Peterson's, "The American Sword" Page 39) A nice quality made sword. See photos for further details, clarification and condition. Shipped USPS package.
