Vintage Italian Monastic Pilgrims Flask Certosa Di Firenze For your consideration is this Certosa di Firenze monastic pilgrim's flask. The flask is marked what looks like "CAS 275" on the bottom, and there is a symbol on the front and o Certosa di Firenze (translated means "Charterhouse"). The use of the term Certosa is specific to the Monasteries of the Carthusian Order of Monks established by Saint Bruno in 1084 in the Chartreuse Mountains of the French Alps. The flask seems to be vintage and was probably made in Italy in the early to mid 20th century. There is a picture of two angels or cherubs holding a cartouche on the front and on the back of the flask. The original string is also attached to the top of the cork so that it is not lost. This flask measures 5 1/2" tall approx 5" wide by less than1 1/2" deep, and it is in goo condition. There are small chips and fleabites around the edges of the flask, and a few spots with paint loss. I don't see any crazing, but there are some spots typical of pottery this old. These flasks were sold as souvenirs by the Certosa Di Firenze, the Certosa Galluzzo Monastery in Florence, Italy, during the 19th century filled with their 'Chartreuse' liquor made to a secret recipe. possibly made in fantechi THESE ITEMS ARE ALL DRAWER /ATTIC FINDS ETC BOUGHT IN AUCTION FROM HOUSE CLEARANCE LOTS THEREFORE read more
