Very fine condition original light cavalry or artillery type saber that is marked Woolley Sargant on the spine of the blade next to the cross guard. This good looking piece looks like the militia light artillery saber Model 1810-1840 in the reference book “American Swords” by Harold Peterson, item #38 on page 39. This good looking 30” curved blade, 1 3/8” at the hilt and has a broad fuller on both sides with a beautiful bright blade that was never sharpened and has just a small speckling of brown. Wood grips are fine condition with original leather cover and were never wrapped with wire. The metal parts of the hilt are all brass with a birds head pommel and a brass knuckle bow. All brass has a nice old patina and the leather has a little scuffing to the finish. Beautiful early guaranteed original sword that could have been British made and bought by an American militia unit.
