ENLISTED MILITIA LIGHT ARTILLERY SABER 1810-1840 This pattern sword was used through the Mexican War and some even found their way into the Civil War. The use of this saber was not confined to light artillery. Militia cavalry units also made use of these weapons. The top third of the 32" blade appears to have been blued which might indicate an officer's sword. The bottom two thirds of the blade has a silverish gray patina with some dark spots and a minor amount of pitting. The bottom of the sword has no dings or nicks. The blade appears to have been broken and has a repair approximately two thirds down the blade. This is a solid riveted brazed repair. The sword is somewhat weak at that point but still makes a decent display piece. The leather grip is about 80% intact with no wire wrapping present. The brass guard and hilt have a nice, old brass patina. The sword and handle are very solid. The sword is totally unmarked which might indicate a foreign manufacturer. This is a good representative early sword. It can still make a nice display piece even with the repair on the blade.International shipping and handling is approximately $38No "APO" ShippingAny questions please contact us1840dd
