You are bidding on a museum quality ginger jar by widely collected British master potter Jim Malone. DESCRIPTION: This Asian inspired master work is a voluminous jar with a wide rounded shoulder and a masterfully executed, snug fitting lid It is decorated with a green ash glaze that evokes a classic Chinese celadon. (The potter left the base and the very bottom of the exterior unglazed.) The outside is masterfully decorated with four incised concentric circles, the bottom two of which underline continuous rows of carved, upward angled flecks. (The top of the lid has a circular border that frames twelve rows of similar flecked markings.) Finally, the shoulder of the pot is adorned with a series of free form, calligraphic symbols. This incredible ginger jar stands 9” tall and measures an impressive 9 ¼” at its widest- and displays nicely large. It is in mint condition- no chips, cracks or repairs- and has the potter’s impressed personal mark. ABOUT JIM MALONE: Jim Malone was born in Sheffield in 1946 and studied ceramics at Camberwell during the early 1970's.
