This is an Antique Handmade Large Primitive Shaker Wooden Coopered Firkin or Sugar Bucket from Lancaster , Pennsylvania circa early 1800s. A Firkin is an old English Unit of Volume. The term firkin is currently used to refer to antique buckets, usually with a handle and lid. This Primitive Antique Firkin has a rich and warm patina with the original ochre/orange patina. The antique Shaker Firkin is large in size. The Antique Sugar Firkin has a wide bentwood band swing handle that is attached to the bucket with wooden buttons and is pegged in the inside. The lid shows the original copper nails with beautiful tapered fingers.The top of the antique Wooden Firkin shows the characteristics of a hand turned lid with the wood turning lines that grace this early primitive. The bottom of the antique firkin also shows an additional tapered finger bands that surrounds the bucket. The Antique Handmade Primitive Firkin has a total of four bentwood bands that show the original cooper nails. Each of the four bentwood bands overlap with finely tapered fingers. The Antique Primitive Shaker Firkin is in excellent condition and has aged appropriate patina. The Antique Shaker Firkin has been cleaned and oiled with natural bee’s oil and is immaculate.
